Rebbecca's Story

Born to Jamaican expatriate parents, I describe myself as a British Born Jamaican of African heritage who exists to help create a level playing field for culturally marginalised people.

When I want to put some shine on my description, I am referred to as the multi-award-winning Founder and Director of Strawberry Words training consultancy, based in Birmingham, UK who has 25 years’ experience of delivering training in cultural awareness, antiracism, and community engagement.

In addition to designing accredited courses (as hopefully you will have seen) I alongside associates, delivers training workshops, specialising in facilitating safe conversations on microaggressions, allyship, systemic racism, and unconscious bias. She has delivered talks and training internationally and in the U.K. for entities such as Avanti West Coast, Birmingham 2022 Festival, The Princes’ Trust, The University of Cambridge, The University of Birmingham, and Coventry City of Culture.

I founded my then performing arts company, Harvey Arts, in 2002, working in schools to help children to explore their cultures and identities. In 2013, I took a short break from work whilst having my precious daughter and then later changed the name of the business to Strawberry Words.

Quickly, I got back to work helping to level the playing field for culturally marginalised people. The focus was on large scale schools’ projects, to explore diversity. In 2016, I was presented an award by Coventry University for my diversity and inclusion work within the school system. Admittedly I was pretty chuffed, as I had worked so hard to get to this point.
